Advocacy Resources from the American Council of the Blind

Updated as of October 8, 2024.

The American Council of the Blind (ACB), is a national consumer organization of blind people. Please find below some of their free, online advocacy materials.

ACB Advocacy Resources

ACB maintains an Advocacy and Governmental Affairs web page that contains both internal ACB policy information (Resolutions) and up-to-date information about Federal legislation impacting blind/low vision individuals. This legislative information, under the “LEGISLATIVE TRACKER” heading, provides updates on federal legislation in many areas of life, including Employment, Health, Technology, Transportation, and more! Under the “Individual Member Advocacy” heading, we find a link to ACB’s Resources web page, where we find a great deal of information pertaining to our rights as blind/low vision individuals.

ACB Advocacy Successes

ACB’s Advocacy web page sets forth important issues on which ACB has had success in advocating on the federal level. These issues include: Accessible Prescription Drug Labeling, the Twenty-first Century Communications & Video Accessibility Act, and the Pedestrian Safety Enhancement Act of 2010.

ACB also maintains its The Washington Connection web page, on which ACB reports updates regarding its advocacy efforts on both the federal and state levels. Check out these updates often.

Advocacy Materials in ACB Media

ACB maintains a robust media vault; find out more in the Bridges Resource Library’s Media and Publications from the American Council of the Blind entry. Some examples include:
