Student Spotlight: Ally Sloat’s Journey Toward Self-Discovery and Self-Advocacy

At The IMAGE Center, we love celebrating the achievements of our students—and today, we’re proud to shine the spotlight on Alexandra “Ally” Sloat, one of our incredible Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) participants!

Ally recently completed our Self-Awareness and Self-Advocacy training, part of our Pre-ETS curriculum designed to help students explore who they are and how they can confidently advocate for their needs. She’s also participating in our Work Readiness training—taking important steps toward her future!

When Ally first joined the training, she wasn’t quite sure what she wanted to do after high school. But through conversations, activities, and a bit of self-reflection, she began uncovering her interests and discovering exciting career possibilities. That kind of clarity is a huge win!

One area where Ally truly shined was in self-advocacy. She and her mom shared that speaking up for herself had always been a challenge. But as Ally learned new tools and strategies during the training, she started using her voice more. In fact, she proudly shared a moment when she spoke up in class for the very first time—a big milestone that shows just how far she’s come.

Ally says she’s still getting used to self-advocating—and that’s perfectly okay. Growth doesn’t happen overnight, but what matters is that she’s on the path and making progress. We’re so proud of her bravery, self-reflection, and determination.

Way to go, Ally! Keep shining—you’re just getting started.
