Cole and Glenn are a great team when it comes to learning about skills they need to be ready for work! Cole Whitehurst and Glenn Ison of Harford County are two students taking advantage of summer learning in our PreETS Work Readiness training program. As part of the curriculum, these students often engage in problem solving activities to discuss real life situations and how they might be handled by a person acting professionally. Cole reflected that he loved discussing all the different questions and situations about behaving professionally.
With self-awareness skills, both young men have begun to reflect on their preferences for a work environment where they can thrive independently. Cole has a love of cooking and food and would fit right into a restaurant setting. Glenn has a passion for helping and talking to people, where he would be a great customer service representative in any store.
As they move through the eight-week program, Cole and Glenn will learn how to balance work and life in healthy ways, how to build positive workplace relationships, and will gain some financial awareness by reading paychecks, all capped off with job interview practice.
Both Cole and Glenn already exemplify many work readiness skills in their positive attitude towards learning, willingness to be coached, teamwork, and prompt arrival to our lessons at the library. When asked what he liked about the program so far, Glenn observed that he likes seeing the difference between professional and unprofessional behavior.
We’re so proud of these two motivated students who have bright professional futures ahead of them!
