Seven Ways to Volunteer

Our volunteers are the heartbeat of the organization who keep the innovation underway.  We couldn’t do it without them.  We need volunteers in all aspects of the VME experience.

Sign up now!

1. Design & build

Work from your home workshop, makerspace, or a designated team location. Specs, client measurements, and goals provided.  Work individually or as a team.  Share your progress at our monthly PRAC meetings (#3).  Rewarding! Watch your design come to life and impact a client!

Estimated volunteer time:  varies based on the project.

2.  Be an active paricipant of CST (Client Services Team)

Be the first to meet our clients in person or virtually. Discuss each project with the family, gather details, and review project goals.  Share info with CST for final approval (2nd Wednesday, monthly – virtually).  Help with project design ideas.  Engineers, PTs, OTs, RNs, AT specialists.

Estimated volunteer time:  4-8 hrs/month.  CST is co-chaired by two Volunteer OTs.

3.  Be an active participant of PRAC (Project Review & Approval Committee)

Join us virtually each month (4th Wed) to provide your engineering and medical insights on new projects and projects underway. We need your keen, critical eyes on all projects as PRAC is the area that focuses on quality and safety of all VME projects. Projects are approved to open and approved to close. Volunteers working on projects and students present updates for PRAC review. Once per quarter, PRAC meets in person for Saturday Brunch to have a more hands-on approach to the projects. Great way to network with fellow engineers & medical professionals.  Fascinating meeting!

Estimated volunteer time:  1-3 hrs/month – Virtual – once per Quarter in person on a Saurday. PRAC is chaired by a volunteer engineer.

4. Be a School Mentor

Share your engineering & technical expertise with a school team working on a VME project.  Offer resources and engineering practices to ensure a VME project is completed on time and with quality. High schools, community colleges & universities in Maryland and DC.

Estimated volunteer time:  4-8 hrs./month – At least once per quarter – meet in person and encouraged to attend Capstone presentation/Design Day

5. Participate in One Day Events
