Independent Living

The Independent Living (IL) skills program is a non-residential service that provides consumers with short-term instruction and resources from an IL Specialist to remain or become more independent. Consumers aim to reach personal goals for independence in one or more areas of everyday life and complete tasks with fewer supports after training.

Eligible consumers should be over 14 years old, must live within IMAGE Center’s service area, and are not currently receiving day program or in-home IL support services. Consumers will actively participate in goal creation and problem solving as part of the experience.

IL Skills consumers typically meet once a week for a maximum of 12 weeks with an IL Specialist who supports the consumer’s work towards their goals. Meetings can happen virtually, in-person at the IMAGE Center office, or at a library location convenient for the consumer and instructor.

This service is free of charge and an outside referral is not needed to apply.

Goals can be made in the following areas:

  • personal finance
  • home care and management
  • cooking, meal planning, kitchen safety
  • healthcare self-management
  • using public transportation
  • time management and goal-setting
  • self-advocacy and communication
